Pre-Order Ancillary Sword & Get a Signed Bookplate PLUS Chapter 1 Posted

So, basically, what it says in the subject line up there. If you’ve pre-ordered Ancillary Sword (or if you do pre-order it in the next couple of weeks), click on over to this form, fill it out (including a copy and paste or an image file of your receipt), and I will sign a bookplate for you.

Here’s that link again: Pre-Order Ancillary Sword and Receive a Signed Bookplate

And! This basically steals fire from my “sentence a day” plan, but that’s all right. I’ll continue it in case anyone still wants the slow drip (they’re all already scheduled anyway!). But. You can read Chapter 1 IN ITS ENTIRETY on Orbit’s website.

As you are likely aware, yesterday on his blog John Scalzi posted a picture of Ancillary Sword in a pile of ARC’s he recently received…and that he made special notice of the fact that AS was in the stack. I think John may be a fan of your work, also.

Somehow, the picture of a Hugo-winning author folding laundry and discussing egg poaching tickled me. I know, life and all, but still…

Plus, you mean you don’t yet have minions to do your laundry and other household chores? šŸ™‚

A check at amazon.com just now shows they have not yet come to their senses…AS is still shown as “Currently Unavailable”, although they magnanimously offered to put me on a list to be notified should that status change in the future. At least they are acknowledging that your sequel book actually exists. Well, I can always take my custom elsewhere.

And I appreciate that quite a lot! I do not mind him talking about my book to his very large blog audience!

I’m not a hundred percent surprised though. In fact, my first genre sale was to him–it was “Hesperia and Glory” to the issue of Subterranean that he guest edited.

Yeah, I know what you mean! I’ve always had “award-winning SF author” as a kind of separate category in my mind. Human, surely, but in a sphere separate from us everyday people! Except, you know, it turns out not. šŸ˜‰ A couple of days after the Clarke award was announced I ran into some friends at the grocery store and they said, “What? You won the Clarke and you still have to do your own grocery shopping? That’s just wrong!” and we all laughed.

And I do have minions, but they’re mostly assigned dishwashing and cooking duties (they are still in training with the cooking and haven’t gotten to poached eggs yet, though my daughter specializes in egg dishes (makes a mean omelette) and likely will unlock that achievement far earlier in her life than I did). And some laundry, but not the folding bit.

Amazon–yeah. That is what it is.

Just a few minutes ago I found AS is available for pre-order from iBooks on my iPad. I have not purchased books from Apple previously but have been meaning to look into it. Now I have an excellent reason to do so.
